20-year-old Chinese pianist Zhang Shengliang, best known by his stage name Niuniu, has confirmed he's trying his hand at pop music.

"I listen to many different styles of music. I am also interested in composing pop music on the piano. I hope I can make a breakthrough with my next album."

Niuniu, a child prodigy who made a name for himself on the international stage through classical music, is teaming up with Universal to release a new pop album in February.

Niuniu broke onto the music scene in 2003, shortly after his 6th birthday.

He later became the youngest student in the Shanghai Conservatory's 81-year history.

At 12, Niuniu became the youngest pianist to record all of Chopin's compositions.

He was later awarded with the Prix Montblanc as the most talented young artist in Europe.
