As the world marks the 200th birth anniversary of German philosopher Karl Marx (1918-83), a doctoral forum was held at Renming University on June 9, focusing o Marxism and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

The forum brought together representatives from the Youth League Committee organizations of more than 50 universities in the capital and over 170 PhD candidates from the schools of Marxism of Renming University, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Beijing Formal Univeristy.

Speaking at the forum, which was first held in in 2002, Wu Fulai, the deputy Party secretary of Renming University, says he would like to see the students to translate the thoughts and theories into practice.

"I hope the academic forum will help improve the university students' research skills and boost the influence and popularity of Marxism." says Wu.

Guo Wenjie, the president of the Beijing Youth Federation, says the federation will set up a Beijing-based camp to deepen university students' understanding of President Xi's thoughts.
