Millions of user accounts of the Chinese video sharing platform AcFun have been hacked, the website said in a statement released early Wednesday morning.
According to the statement, the accessed data included the user IDs, nicknames and passwords of nearly 10 million users.
AcFun said it has collected evidence and reported it to the police.
The company also advised users with simple passwords to change them as quickly as possible, on the AcFun site as well as any other sites where they use the same password.
In the statement, AcFun apologized to users and promised they will do everything they can to protect user data.
AcFun is China's first video sharing website where comments are overlaid on videos. Founded in 2007, the website was acquired by its rival video streaming app Kuaishou on June 5. Kuaishou is backed by Chinese internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd.
