Renowned Chinese director Jia Zhangke will serve as executive producer for the second collaboration between the five BRICS countries’ directors. The news was announced on Sunday during the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival.

With a theme that embodies modern female emotion and society, “Half the Sky” is an anthology of five independent short films from filmmakers of China, Russia, Brazil, India, and South Africa.

Five female directors, including China's Liu Yulin, Russia's Elizaveta Stishova, Brazil's Daniela Thomas, India's Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, and South Africa's Sara Blecher were invited to partake in this creative project. Jia Zhangke will produce the film and hopes it will promote feminism and help women around the world realize their true value.

Jia was one of the directors who collaborated on the first anthology project between the five BRICS countries last year with "Where Has the Time Gone".

Starring Liu Bei, Wang Luodan, and Zong Ping, Liu Yulin's short film, "Jiaozi", included in "Half the Sky", tells a story about the emotional relationship between a woman and her daughter.

"Half the Sky" will be released in China later this year.
