Online show helps art lovers brush up on modern Chinese works

About 300 pieces from the Central Academy of Fine Arts' art museum have been published in an online exhibition developed jointly with Google Arts & Culture, featuring iconic works of Chinese modern art by master painters such as Xu Beihong.[Photo provided to China Daily]

"Many hold the wrong opinion that online exhibitions will reduce the number of people visiting a museum. However, the opposite is true－it helps to attract more people who have already embraced digitalization to step into museums and see for themselves, " says Sood.

Google Arts & Culture has worked with 29 cultural institutes in China so far, including private galleries such as the Long Museum in Shanghai, traditional museums such as the Palace Museum and Suzhou Museum, and even well-known gardens that house traditional Chinese architecture.

Audiences from around the world can enjoy Chinese silk art, works of intangible art such as puppet shows, papercutting and even the beauty of costumes worn by ethnic groups in China.

Sood says they tried to find different kinds of museums to work with and introduce a broad range of Chinese arts to global audiences.
