"Five Acts of Life," a theatrical adaptation of short stories by famed late Chinese novelist and dramatist Lao She, will tour China from July to November.

The play, directed by director Lin Zhaohua, premiered in 2010 in commemoration of the 111th anniversary of Lao She's birth.

Based on five short stories, the play depicts the lives of ordinary people in Beijing, covering themes such as women's rights, gangs and homosexuality.

The play will be staged in Tianjin on July 17 and in Beijing from July 27 to 29. It will also be performed in Shanghai in October. Audiences in Changsha and Nanjing can see the show in November.

One of the most prominent figures of 20th century Chinese literature, Lao She (1899-1966) was best known for his novels "Rickshaw Boy" and "Four Generations under One Roof, and the play "Teahouse."
