Chan also faced challenges when moving to study at Peking University, such as learning mathematics. Learning the terminology in English when she was back home in Malaysia, she had a hard time adapting to the Mandarin form. However, she found that the rewards far outweighed the struggles.

"Studying in a different country gives me the opportunity to know a lot of great people from different countries," the second-year journalism student says.

"With activities among international students, the connection is guaranteed. These people are all inspiring and eye-opening in their own ways."

Chan sees China as a growing leader in the world and wanted to put herself in a place of opportunity. She believes that PKU, being one of the best universities in China, has helped her feel at home and prepare her for a career in journalism.

"Having good teachers that give us support and encouragement makes me feel warm and taken care of," Chan says.

"Furthermore, the Malaysian Student Association of PKU is like a second home to me."

Overall, these students are preparing themselves for more of a global career and a lifetime of international experiences. Their universities have taken them in and shown them the excitement of living and learning abroad.
