A Chinese language adaptation of celebrated late Israeli playwright Hanoch Levin's comedy "Winter Funeral" is on stage from Jan. 2 to 6 in Beijing.

Dubbed the premiere Chinese version of "Winter Funeral," it is considered one of Levin's most brilliant family comedies. Its Chinese adaptation is a collaboration of Israeli director Yair Sherman and students at The Dome Studio in Beijing.

Levin, who died in 1999, was one of Israel's most prolific and influential playwrights, creating more than 60 plays in his life. His works have been translated into more than 20 languages and shown around the world.

Levin was the first Israeli playwright to have his works brought to the Chinese stage. His most famous play "Requiem" has been staged three times in China.

Sherman said in "Requiem" Levin revealed his insight into life and death through long dialogue. But in "Winter Funeral," the same insight is hidden in the joyful but a bit absurd drama.
