Twelve children became Lego's junior master model builders after two rounds of fierce competition in Beijing on Saturday.

The organizers accepted nearly 200 Lego models of children in northern China that received over 30,000 votes. The jury finally selected 30 entries for the competition held at the soon-to-be-opened Legoland Discovery Center Beijing in the capital.

The jury based their final selection on the imagination, creativity, speed, skill and expression to choose 12 winners who received gift packages from Merlin Entertainments Group and will have a chance to appear at the opening ceremony of Legoland Discovery Center Beijing with Wu Chun, a popular Bruneian singer and actor among the Chinese community. Wu will serve as ambassador of the Lego center.

Merlin Entertainments Group will open the new attraction in April. It will comprise 13 zones, including a 4D cinema, LEGOMINILAND models, recreational facilities and a host of other attractions.

The Beijing facility will become the 21st in the world and the first Legoland in northern China, following the successful 2016 launch of China's first Legoland Discovery Center in Shanghai. The new attraction will be located in Longhu Paradise Walk Shopping Center in Chaoyang District.

The Legoland indoor family attraction will be added to the British family entertainment giant's new wave of expansion into the Chinese market. The group has already opened two attractions in the capital - Madame Tussauds Beijing and Little Big City Beijing.
