A Chinese production of William Shakespeare's comedy "The Merchant of Venice" will hit the stage of the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) from April 9 to 14.
Produced by the NCPA, the play takes "contract spirit" as its theme, depicting love and friendship, and sings in praise of the positive energy of courage and kindness in society.
"The Merchant of Venice," written in the late 16th century, was listed as one of Shakespeare's greatest comedies. In the story, a merchant in Venice, Antonio, must default on a large loan provided by a Jewish moneylender, Shylock.
