Around 98 percent of printed books published in China are up to quality standards, according to official statistics released on Friday.

The authorities conducted a random inspection on the quality of books in 2018 and found that all books were environmentally friendly and 72.09 percent of compact disk copies qualified, according to information from a symposium on quality inspection of publications.

The inspection covered 11,035 books published by 100 publishing houses and printed by 238 printing factories.

The publishing houses, printing factories and CD copy producers that were responsible for unqualified books have received administrative punishment from local management and law enforcement departments and were urged to enhance quality supervision, check on hidden risks and improve manufacturing techniques.
