"Da Zhai Men" or "The Grand Mansion Gate," a Peking opera adapted from a renowned Chinese TV drama, is being staged at Mei Lanfang Theatre in Beijing from March 30 to 31.

The opera, created by Guo Baochang, director of the original TV drama, premiered in Beijing in June 2017.

The original TV drama "The Grand Mansion Gate" centers upon the fictional Bai family, an eminent household of traditional Chinese pharmacists, and their ups and downs through the turbulent decades between the late Qing Dynasty and the outbreak of the war against Japanese aggression.

Aired in 2001, the TV drama was well received by audiences and is among the most celebrated TV dramas in China.
