Audiobooks become new growth point in Chinese reading habits

Listening to audiobooks has become a new growth point for the Chinese in terms of their reading habits, a survey unveiled Tuesday show.

About 26 percent of adult Chinese and 26.2 percent of young Chinese under 18 listened to audiobooks in 2018, up 3.2 and 3.5 percentage points year on year respectively, according to the survey by the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication.

Among the adult respondents, 11.7 percent use applications on their mobile gadgets to access audiobooks, while 6.4 percent opt to listen to them through radios.

The survey, conducted from August to December 2018, had a sample size of 19,683 people from 29 provincial-level regions.
