Chinese cellist Chu Yibing held a mini-concert at the Temple of Agriculture, a historic site in Beijing, on Tuesday.
Chu and his ensemble performed a variety of music ranging from German composer Johann Sebastian Bach's "Air on the G String" to the theme song of the 2008 Olympic Games "You and Me," treating the audience to peaceful and mind-blowing melodies amid the hustle and bustle of city life.
After 21 years of studying and playing the cello in Europe, he returned to China in 2004. Since then, Chu has dedicated his time and energy to popularizing cello ensemble music by holding more than 500 performances around the country.
The concert was part of the May Festival organized by the National Centre for the Performing Arts, which features a series of public performances aimed at bringing chamber music to ordinary people.
The Temple of Agriculture, located along the central axis of Beijing, is an ancient complex where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties performed sacrifices to the god of farming.
The temple and 13 other historical places along the central axis of Beijing will apply for World Heritage status in 2035.
