The second batch of Japanese university student delegation dispatched by Japan-China Cultural Exchanges Association in 2019 arrived in Beijing Tuesday, embarking on a seven-day trip to China.

The group, comprised of 110 students and scholars from 40 institutions of higher education as well as personnel from the association, is invited by China-Japan Friendship Association and will visit Beijing and northwest China's Gansu Province.

The delegation attended three interactive workshops at the Palace Museum Tuesday afternoon, which briefed them on seal carving, porcelain painting and court necklace making.

"Cultural exchanges constitute the ground for various types of communication," said Wang Xudong, director of the Palace Museum.

Wang expressed his hope that Chinese and Japanese young people can enhance their mutual understanding and respect through exchanges.

"Chinese culture is amazing," said Marie Ogura, a student from Heian Jogakuin University. "We should have more communication."

A first-time visitor to China, Ogura said the Palace Museum is "delicate and exquisite."

The delegation is set to visit the Great Wall on Wednesday, after which they will travel to Gansu for a series of events, including a workshop at Lanzhou University and a visit to Dunhuang grottos.
