Hungarian animation film 'Ruben Brandt, Collector' wins Animafest Grand Prix

A Hungarian animation film, "Ruben Brandt, Collector" won the Grand Prix at the Animafest, Zagreb, Croatia, according to official sources here on Wednesday.

The storyline of the Hungarian animated film follows psychotherapist who suffers violent nightmares inspired by legendary works of art. Four of his patients, expert thieves, offer to steal the works, since he believes that once he owns them, the nightmares will disappear. He becomes a wanted criminal know as "The Collector".

Founded by the Hungarian National Film Fund, about 100 animators have participated in the production process of the film.

The unmatched popularity of the film led the producers to launch a website archiving the little-known facts, easter eggs and allusions titled "Smart-movie", providing fans with an easy-to-access knowledge bank.

In the past, the piece was awarded the Grand Prix at the Animest IAFF Budapest, the Best Award for the Best Screenplay at the Seville Film Festival Awards in Spain.

It also won the SkyArtec Awards at Trieste Film Festival in Italy, earning the BeTV Special Mentions Award in Brussels, Belgium.

"The movie encompasses thousands of niche references to the masterpieces of European art history," the Hungarian government announced on its website, adding that the full-length feature film has so far attracted 50,000 viewers in Hungary.
