The wax figure of Chinese actress Tong Liya was inducted into the Madame Tussauds Beijing on July 4, during a ceremony to launch a new zone in the Merlin Entertainments-owned attraction.
Tong, 35, born in Qapqal Xibe Autonomous County, of the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang, is an award-winning actress known for many classic characters in films and TV series, such as "The Queens", "Beijing Love Story", "Nirvana in Fire 2", "The Taking of Tiger Mountain", "Detective Chinatown" and "How Long Will I Love U". Upcoming "Coward Hero" starring Tong is one of the highly-anticipated films for this summer.
Madame Tussauds artists spent five hours to measure her before making the wax double, Tong revealed at the ceremony. She believed they had done an amazing job to duplicate her appearance, even duplicating such delicate details such as the dimple on her face. She called the wax figure as her "twin sister".
Tong also became the first Chinese artist to be inducted into the new "Party Zone" of Madame Tussauds Beijing. The venue spent a year to build the traditional Chinese-style decorated zone, putting together wax figures of megastars, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio, as if they were attending a VIP party.
Madame Tussauds Beijing is a century-old international brand from the United Kingdoms, the fourth Madame Tussauds in China and the first international entertainment experience venue to open in central Beijing. The venue is divided into 11 zones, including the zones themed of China spirit, world leaders, musicians, sports stars and fashion, as well as the new Party zone.
