Outstanding recitation performances were a feature of the week-long "The Power of Language" event ending on July 28 at the Future Theatre of the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People.

During the "Recitation Week: The Power of Language" July 24-28, young contestants participated in a recitation competition, listened to lectures and received tutoring from various experts. More than 800 contestants from more than 30 provinces and cities took part.

Artists and experts in the field of recitation, broadcasting and hosting, drama and performance, and education sector, such as Chen Duo, a host of the Central Radio and Television Station, Yang Qing, national class-A performer, and Li Mingxin, deputy director of the Beijing Academic Society for Education(BASE), attended and presented awards.

Recitation performance artists, members of the Cao Can Art Group, and a number of outstanding contestants staged some truly extraordinary performances.

"They (the young participants) used their beautiful voices to interpret the beauty of literature, showing the power of the language within their hearts and exuding the charm of youth," Chen Duo said in his awards presentation speech.

Li Yonghui, an expert from BASE Recitation Research Branch and senior teacher of the Cao Can Art Training School and Cao Can Art Group, who gave tutoring classes and lectures to the contestants, commented that the elocution of this year's participants was most impressive.

"Participants represent youth across the country, and the event serves as a great platform for learning and exchanges, with teachers giving guidance, especially beneficial to those who came from remote areas," said Li in speaking of the significance of this event to reporters.

Li Xinru, from Hebei province, who took part in the performance entitled "Feeling the Sun in the World of Recitation," told this reporter that she learned a lot of recitation skills during the event.

Li Qin, a teacher from Yili, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, who won the Outstanding Mentor Award, said, "This activity has yielded beneficial results for our students. For one thing, it has aroused their passion for recitation, and, for another, students have learned the right method to improve their skills."

"Recitation Week: The Power of Language" is an event of display and exchange centered on recitation, co-sponsored by the China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Center for Young People and Beijing Cao Can Cultural Communication Co., Ltd.

The competition part was similar to the "Cao Can Cup," an annual teenager recitation competition. Apart from that, lectures from artists and tutoring courses were also offered for participants, aiming to build a platform for young children to improve themselves.
