An art archives exhibition opened at the National Centre for the Performing Arts Tuesday, showcasing art development since the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

The exhibition shows the history and achievements of Chinese art during the past 70 years with over 1,000 items including the manuscript of the Yellow River Cantata and the performance video of late Chinese theater mogul Mei Lanfang.

It also displays the handprints and signatures of famous artists, stage designs and posters from different historical periods.

The NCPA will invite well-known artists to deliver lectures to tell the stories behind the art archives.

The exhibition will last until Oct. 10.
