Global publishing professionals, scholars hold meet in Beijing

Understanding China: A sub-forum on 70 Years of China's International Publishing and Mutual Learning Among Civilizations was held in Beijing recently by The State Council Information Office of the People's Republic of China and China International Publishing Group.

At the event, over 200 scholars and experts from home and abroad discussed topics like international cooperation in publishing and how Chinese books are received in the international market.

According to Nove Cvetanoski, director and editor in chief of Makedonika Litera, Macedonia, the people in his country liked Chinese books, and he said that the values found in traditional Chinese culture could be useful for the Western world.

As for Lu Cairong, the deputy director of the China International Publishing Group, he said: "China needs to better understand the world, and the world also needs to better understand China."
