The Confucius Institute in Rabat, Morocco's capital, celebrated on Saturday the Global Confucius Institute Day.

Various cultural activities were arranged during this event, including tea tasting, quiz, performance of Chinese martial arts, calligraphy and paper cutting.

Karima Yatribi, the foreign dean of Confucius Institute in Rabat, said at the opening ceremony that more and more people in Morocco are interested in learning Chinese language.

There were only less than 60 students when the institute was established in 2009, while over 1,400 students register this year only in Rabat, she added.

The first Confucius Institute in Morocco was officially set up in 2009 at Mohammed V University in Rabat and has been expanding to meet Moroccan people's increasing demands of learning Chinese language and culture, she said.

The institute has also created sections for children aged 7-14.

Besides the institute in Rabat, two other Confucius Institutes have been established in the universities of Casablanca and Tangiers, as well as two sub centers in Agadir and Kenitra.
