The 7th Kuwait Collegiate Programming Contest (KCPC) for the year of 2019 kicked off on Saturday in the country's capital of Kuwait City.

The contest is hosted by Kuwait College of Science and Technology (KCST) and aims to qualify creative young people to compete on regional and international levels.

Khalid Al-Begain, president of KCST, said that the contest is a qualifying round for the Africa & Arab Collegiate Programming Championship (ACPC), adding that it is the second time for the college to host this important contest.

"The contest is for young creative computer programmers where this year there are 43 teams competing from nine universities in Kuwait," he said.

"The competition will last for over five hours, then the evaluation will be done by a regional and international committee and the results will be announced later," he noted.

For his part, Fares Melhes, dean of the Faculty of Engineering in KCST, said that the contest is about solving technological problems, adding that 210 participants from all public and private universities of Kuwait took part in it.

"We are specialized in computer science, computer engineering, and electronics," he noted.

Winners of the contest will be qualified to compete in the ACPC, and winning teams from ACPC are then qualified to compete in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) World Finals.

The ICPC is an annual multi-tiered competitive programming competition among the universities of the world.
