North China's Shanxi Province launches digital conservation for more than 30 cultural relics under state protection in this region, according to the Shanxi Culture Relics Bureau.

The provincial cultural relics conservation department collects the data and establishes the image and video files of the cultural relics including Yungang Grottoes, a 1,500-year-old Buddhist sculptural site with professional institutions, said Zhao Shuguang, deputy head of the bureau.

The province also launched a digital collection of some endangered buildings and mural paintings.

Shanxi has 531 historical and cultural sites protected at the national level, ranking the first in China.
