Domestic drama film "Better Days" topped the Chinese mainland box office with more than 70 million yuan (about 9.93 million U.S. dollars) on Friday, the China Movie Data Information Network said Saturday.

Accounting for nearly 36 percent of the daily tally on the eighth day of its screening, the film, directed by Derek Tsang, tells the story of two high school students whose fates were changed by an accident.

It was followed by "Terminator: Dark Fate," the sixth installment in the "Terminator" franchise, totaling more than 62 million yuan of its premiere.

Coming in third was "Weathering With You," a Japanese animated romantic fantasy film telling of a high school teenager who appears to be able to manipulate the weather. It pocketed 45 million yuan on its debut day.
