China Coal Mine Art Troupe has announced its plan to support young Chinese crosstalk artists with a show introducing 14 new crosstalk performers in Beijing on Nov 21. The shows run through Nov 23.

Crosstalk, also known as xiangsheng, is a traditional Chinese art form of comic storytelling with a history of over 100 years. It usually contains comic monologues, dialogues, or sketches, which uses puns, allusions and quick, playful banter to great effect.

The young crosstalk performers gave performances of traditional crosstalk pieces as well as original works, which cater to younger audiences. It is part of the art troupe's effort to upgrade the traditional comedy form and promote it among younger generations.

Veteran crosstalk artists, including Jia Lun and Lian Chunjian, also collaborated with the young performers as guest performers.
