NCPA treats open day guests with feast of arts

The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) held an Open Day art festival on Sunday to mark the center's 12th anniversary. The day saw over 50 performances and events from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nearly 12,000 visitors took part in the activities.

Open day guests were greeted with an ethnic dance performances at 9:00 a.m. According to vice president of NCPA Zhao Jiachen, the annual festival has always been one of the most popular events of NCPA, attracting 10,000 visitors a year.

The audience were greeted with actors and actresses of NCPA productions of "Aida," "The Railway to Tibet," and "Snow White" at the center's North Underwater Corridor. 

At the East Exhibition Hall, people took part in drawings and left messages inside an immersive swan-themed cafe named "Art Swan café." At 10:00 a.m., a flash mob surprised visitors with a "Dance of the Little Swans" from "Swan Lake." "The national center is extraordinary, and I hope to see a Peking Opera performance here in the future," said a 90-year-old visitor.

Audiences were also excited for the day's premiere of the "The Railway to Tibet," the first 4K dance drama film produced by NCPA. The music hall hosted a concert that marked the 12th anniversary in the morning, and the Beijing Symphony Orchestra delivered a chamber music concert for the visitors in the afternoon. Inside the multifunctional theatre, programs such as the "Hungarian Dance No. 5" also caught people's attention.

A series of exclusive art exhibitions fascinated the crowd, including "Melodies from Anhui-Cultural Relics Related to Anhui's Music and Local Operas" in the East Exhibition Hall and a collection of NCPA dramas in the past 12 years in the West Exhibition Hall. In the Arts Gallery, "Sparkling Splendor: An Exhibition of NCPA's Achievements" offered visitors a look back on the center's successes in arts, performances, and exchanges.

In the evening, the NCPA Chorus surprised the crowd again with excerpts from its original opera "The Long March" and a co-production of NCPA and Guangzhou Dramatic Arts Centre Drama "Lin Zexu." "A Story of Growing Up" presented by NCPA offered a quality time for children at the multifunctional theater.
