An online press briefing was held on Tuesday to announce the launch of the reality show "Chuang 2020", where 101 female contests will compete for the chance to join a seven-member pop group.

This is the second time Tencent Video has created a girl group by running a talent show, in which the final tally of votes will decide who will break into Chinese entertainment circles.

Its first try was in the summer of 2018. Back then, 11 wannabe pop stars got the chance to form a group named Rocket Girls 101, which generated huge buzz on China's major social media platforms.

This time, celebrities, including pop star Huang Zitao, Lu Han, Songqian and singer-songwriter Mao Buyi, will coach during the program to help young participants be more skilled in singing, dancing and presenting captivating facial expressions on stage.

Sun Li, the program's director, said they will select a group more capable of staging performances in a more competitive environment.

"We hope that the audience will feel the young contestants' vigor, confidence and strong determination to pursue their dream," she said.
