The online movie screenings of the Beijing International Film Festival are set to open with Oscar-winning American drama film "Marriage Story" on Friday, according to the film festival's organizer.

This marks the film's Chinese mainland premiere, which had been originally scheduled for February before the coronavirus epidemic forced the closure of movie theaters.

Written and directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Noah Baumbach, "Marriage Story" is referred to as an incisive and compassionate look at a marriage coming apart and a family staying together. It stars Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver.

The Beijing International Film Festival has decided to move this year's movie screenings online amid the country's battle against the novel coronavirus.

The screenings will run on online video platform iQiyi during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, under the title "Spring Online Screenings."

Originally scheduled from April 19 to 26, the 10th Beijing International Film Festival had been postponed because of the coronavirus epidemic.
