Preliminaries of the 18th Chopin International Piano Competition will take place between April 8 and 19, 2021 in Warsaw, the Polish National Institute of Fryderyk Chopin announced on Monday.

During a press conference in Zelazowa Wola, a town where Chopin was born, director of the Institute Artur Szklener said the preliminaries will take place at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw.

Originally, the 18th Chopin International Piano Competition had been scheduled for October this year, with preliminaries in September. The new date for the competition was set for October of 2021.

Szklener added that the 19th edition of the Competition will take place in 2025.

In March, the Institute had said that a total of 164 pianists from 33 countries and regions will take part in the preliminaries. China will be represented by 43 participants, followed by Japan (31), Poland (18) and the Republic of Korea (16).
