A number of "schools for future technologies" will be established in some of China's universities, the Ministry of Education said on Thursday.

The pilot program comes amid the ministry's efforts to promote the development of new engineering disciplines and foster the cultivation of future technological leaders.

Schools for future technologies will explore substantive cross-disciplinary cooperation among different academic fields and modes for cultivating leaders in future technology-related innovations.

According to the ministry, the move aims to build the schools into key sites capable of leading future technological development and cultivating inter-disciplinary and innovative talent.
