Tickets for movie theater screenings at the 10th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) went on sale at noon this Wednesday, with 72% selling out in the first 10 minutes.

The 10 screenings to sell out in the shortest time were: "Like the Dyer's Hand," "Talking the Pictures," "Akira," "War and Peace," "Wet Season," "Cinema Paradiso," "The Elephant Man," the Matrix trilogy, "Apocalypse Now" and "All About ING." Such a variety of offerings shows the large fanbases for different types of films and the diverse tastes of moviegoers in China.

Tickets to watch the works of big-name filmmakers were also snapped up quickly. This year, the festival has created a separate themed section called "The Beguiling World of Eric Rohmer" to show the movies of the French New Wave master. Screenings for six of his films, namely, "The Collector," "Chloe in the Afternoon," "The Green Ray," "My Night at Maud's," "Claire's Knee" and "Four Adventures of Reinette and Mirabelle," all sold out.

Golden Palm Award winner Hirokazu Koreeda's new film "The Truth" was among the most-anticipated, with fans vying to get their hands on a ticket.

The festival's "Vision" section, which brings together highly-rated foreign films released in 2019 and 2020, also proved popular with movie fans. Tickets sold out quickly for both Roman Polanski's "An Officer and a Spy" which combines reality and fiction, and Woody Allen's romantic art house film "A Rainy Day in New York."

In the coming days, the BJIFF will offer a second round of ticket sales for movie theater screenings and also open booking services for outdoor showings.
