AGC Studios said it will fully finance the currently untitled biopic, which will be produced by Howard and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment. Meanwhile, the screenplay will be written by Michelle Mulroney and Kieran Mulroney based on "Journey of a Thousand Miles," Lang’s memoir that he wrote with David Ritz.

"Lang Lang's story is one of determination, passion, sacrifice, and finding the inner strength to beat the odds. This film is a bridge between two cultures that share universal truths about the gauntlets we face in the pursuit of greatness," Grazer and Howard said in a joint statement.

"Dream big, work hard, and always believe in yourself. This movie, thanks to Ron Howard's vision, will inspire young people around the world to follow their dreams and never forget they are one in a million," Lang Lang, 38, said in a statement.

The pianist and Jean-Jacques Cesbron will act as executive producers on the film, alongside Polygram Entertainment's Michele Anthony and David Blackman.

"Journey of a Thousand Miles" looks back on Lang Lang's exceptional life story, from his childhood in Shenyang, Liaoning province in Northern China to how his family sacrificed everything for him, eventually helping him rise to fame and ascending to the peak of the world's classical music industry.

Some of Lang Lang’s most notable performances include playing at the Vatican, the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, and at the Grammys where he was joined by Metallica, Pharrell Williams, and jazz legend Herbie Hancock. He has also performed for numerous international dignitaries and heads of state.

Howard plans to shoot the Lang Lang biopic in China and the U.S. once he wraps "Thirteen Lives," his upcoming dramatization of the 2018 Thai cave rescue. This is not the director’s first time exploring the lives of musicians on film, with previous highly-acclaimed documentaries encompassing "The Beatles: Eight Days A Week" and "Pavarotti."
