As of 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, the fourth day of the eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, Chinese comedy feature "My People, My Homeland" had hit 1 billion yuan in total box office revenue since its opening on Thursday, data from Maoyan showed.

It became the first billion-yuan film among all those scheduled for release during the national holiday and the 76th in China's billion-yuan film club.

It was followed by animated film "Legend of Deification," which saw its total box office revenue reach the 1-billion-yuan mark about 15 minutes later.

"Legend of Deification" was produced by the same companies behind last year's China box office champion "Ne Zha."

Chinese theaters reopened on July 20 following months of closure due to COVID-19.
