An exhibition centering on the qipao commenced Friday in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang province.

The Global Qipao Invitational Exhibition opened at the China National Silk Museum. It presents more than 40 qipao works from about 30 designers from home and abroad. The show has three sections, displaying traditional Chinese culture in different ways.

The qipao, a traditional Chinese dress for women, has long been known for its unique status as a Chinese icon of elegance.

The China National Silk Museum began holding the annual event in 2018. So far, it has collected more than 100 qipao works from 100 designers worldwide.

"The qipao is traditional clothes for Chinese women, and hosting the event can better present the qipao culture," said the museum curator Zhao Feng. "The show also gives inspiration to the designers, which helps with the future development of the qipao."
