Directors Chen Kaige ("Farewell My Concubine"), Tsui Hark ("The Taking of Tiger Mountain") and Dante Lam ("Operation Red Sea") will work together on the film entitled "Chosin Reservoir," set to hit Chinese theaters in the next year.

It will be produced by Bona Film Group and August First Film Studio, with guidance of the China Film Administration and support from the Chinese military. Producer and director Huang Jianxin will be the general executive producer of the film.

Popular action actor Wu Jing and pop idol-turned-actor Jackson Yee will play two close comrades in the production.

The film had originally been scheduled to start filming early this year with another director, Andrew Lau, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Yu Dong, founder and CEO of Bona Film Group, had revealed the delay had caused 150 million yuan loss for the film crew and company.

"Chosin Reservoir" now has a new script written by renowned writer Lan Xiaolong, who spent five years in writing and polishing his 130,000-word script. In addition to the directorial dream team, award-winning Peter Pau will be in charge of the cinematography.

The filmmakers are hoping their collaboration will lead to a masterpiece paying due tribute to China's military heroes and marking the CPC's centennial.
