The first volume of a biography about American economist Paul Samuelson, Founder of Modern Economics: Paul A. Samuelson, was recently published by Beijing-based CITIC Press Group.

As the first American to win the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, Samuelson was considered as the "foremost academic economist of the 20th century" by The New York Times.

Written by British economist Roger E. Backhouse, the book introduces the first 30 years in Samuelson's life, including the creation of his two representative works: Foundations of Economic Analysis and Economics. It shows not only Samuelson's own growth, but also the development of economics in his time.

The author checked documents from the National Archives of the United States and archives in many universities, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Yale University; collected materials from Samuelson's family members and friends; and referred to letters and works about him to create this book.
