Directed by Joel Crawford, "The Croods: A New Age" will open on Nov. 27 in China. It tells the story of a prehistoric family, the Croods, who are challenged by a rival family, the Bettermans, who claim to be better and more evolved. As a father of three, Crawford expressed that he felt connected to all the characters, who mirror issues that exist in modern parenting and adolescent education.

Crawford has worked on multiple DreamWorks films, including the "Trolls," "Shrek" and the "Kung Fu Panda" franchises. Three years ago, he was invited to helm "The Croods" sequel and teamed up with veteran producer Mark Swift to develop the second installment, which is Crawford's feature-film directorial debut.

Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds and Peter Dinklage are the main voice talent behind the English version of the sequel. Chinese actors Guo Jingfei, Lin Gengxin, and Zheng Kai dubbed the major roles in the Chinese version, showing off their great sense of humor and acting skills.

Seven years ago, the first installment of the comedy animation franchise, literally translated as "Crazy Primitive People" in Chinese, grossed 394 million yuan in the Chinese market and $587 million worldwide. This sequel could not come at a better time. Chinese theaters urgently need new content to boost the current market, which has been sluggish for a while after the national holiday peak.

Lately, China's film market has become number one in the world, surpassing the United States due to effective COVID-19 prevention and control, as well as several phenomenal performances by Chinese blockbusters such as "The Eight Hundred."

"The Croods: A New Age" will be arriving in movie theaters on Nov. 25, to coincide with Thanksgiving in North America, and will open in other countries in December.
