Filming has officially begun for "Railway Heroes," a new film set during the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Starring award-winning actor Zhang Hanyu, the war film is set for release on National Day, or Oct. 1, 2021, according to an announcement made on the film's official social media account.

"Railway Heroes" tells the story of a group of people based in east China's Shandong Province combating Japanese aggression and defending their homeland to the death.

The film is co-produced by Huayi Brothers, the same company behind "The Eight Hundred," the top earner of 2020 at China's box office that grossed more than 3 billion yuan (463 million U.S. dollars).
