The chorus of the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will perform a series of operatic masterpieces written by Giuseppe Verdi on Saturday evening in Beijing.

To commemorate the 120th anniversary of the death of the famous Italian composer, the Verdi gala will kick off with three mixed choruses, including "Patria Oppressa" from the opera "Macbeth" and "Fuoco di Gioia" from the opera "Otello."

Excerpts from three other popular operas by Verdi, namely "Rigoletto," "La traviata" and "Aida," will be staged afterwards, according to the repertoire, to bring both sensuality and spiritual elation to the audience.

Born in 1813, Verdi composed a total of 26 operatic works throughout his lifetime and represents the highest level of Italian opera composing.

The performance, under the baton of NCPA Artistic Director of Music Lyu Jia, will also see chorus members starring well-known roles of the operas to showcase the potent emotions of Verdi's powerful music.

The tickets for the gala are available on the NCPA website.
