Unfinished painting of Goddess Gayatri, symbol of feminine energy, in Nepal

A painting of Goddess Gayatri by renowned Nepali artist Udaya Charan Shrestha has been unveiled at the premises of Museum of Nepali Art.
Goddess Gayatri is the personification of primordial feminine energy, which in today's context characterizes the immeasurable and invaluable roles of women in society, according to the artist.
The painting was jointly unveiled by the artist and Deputy Mayor for Kathmandu Metropolitan City Hari Prabha Khadgi on Monday.
The artist has been working on the paining for past 18 years and it is still incomplete. According to the museum, the art piece will be kept in the museum as a permanent collection once it completed.
"It might take me next few years to complete the paining, but I am planning to complete it within two years," Shrestha said.
Lauding the painting, the founder of the museum Rajan Sakya said, "This paining is a milestone for Nepalese art and a contribution of Nepalese art to the world."
"Real face and structure of goddess Gayatri is still a mystery and doing research about it and depicting such an idol in a painting is something that we must appreciate," said Sakya.
Deputy Mayor Khadgi also believed that the painting has awaken the government towards the preservation of history and heritage.
