Nepal is holding an exhibition of botanical paintings titled "The Beauty of Nepal's Flora" at Kathmandu-based Siddhartha Art Gallery.

The exhibition features 32 paintings by the only botanical illustrator in Nepal Neera Joshi Pradhan.

Speaking at the show's inauguration, Pradhan said, "Nepal has such a diverse flora that this exhibition is just a tip of the iceberg. Nepal is a paradise for vegetation with more than 6,000 species of flowering plants and very few of us know about them."

"I hope this exhibition will help people to learn about the species of flora that exists in the nature." said the artist.

Pradhan is a botanist by her academics, with botanical illustration as her passion for decades.

Pradhan said that technical perfection and scientific accuracy are both required in botanical illustration. The artist has exhibited her paintings in countries including China, Japan, India, and Britain.

The exhibition was kicked off on Tuesday and will run until April 26.
