The mobile cinema app Smart Cinema will screen more than 10 films being featured at the 5th Canada China International Film Festival, bringing Chinese films to more overseas audiences and further promoting bilateral cultural exchanges.

The official exhibition of the film festival, presented by the organizing committee in partnership with Panscene and Smart Cinema, will run from April 1 to April 30. It highlights such excellent Chinese and Canadian films as "Journey to the East", "The Farewell", "Through the Seasons", "My Dear Liar", "Born in 2000", "The Front Line", "Innocent", etc.

The online exhibition of the film festival is the latest innovation of the film industry brought about by Smart Cinema. This initiative broke the COVID-19 pandemic situation and geographical restrictions, beaming many excellent films to Canadian and even the wider North American film audience, and promoted in-depth cultural exchanges between China and Canada with film as the carrier.

Smart Cinema, launched by the former Dalian Wanda Group executive Jack Gao and developed by his team since May 2018, turns smartphones into pocket movie screens, streaming theatrical releases via the internet with personalized and flexible services.

It has become the preferred partner for the virtual exhibition of major international film festivals and has helped many of them hold screenings online in 2020 during the pandemic, such as the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival, New York Asian Film Festival and CineCina Chinese Film Festival.
