A new Chinese animated feature has created a fantasy story based on China's famous Terracotta Warriors, which aims to showcase Chinese culture to the world.

"Realm of Terracotta" will hit Chinese screens this summer, its distributors announced on Tuesday, and after the China debut, it will be exported to more than 20 countries and regions globally.

Nearly 300,000 visitors traveled to Emperor Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi province during the recent May Day holiday to see the iconic Terracotta Warriors. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations and regarded by many foreigners as a miracle of the ancient world.

The new animated film, directed by Leon Ding and Lin Yongchang, took five years to develop by Chinese entertainment group Fantawild, a company behind the smash hit animation franchise Boonie Bears and several Fantawild themed resorts around China. This adventure story is about a young girl and a terracotta warrior who team up to hunt down the creatures that attacked their Qin Dynasty underground city.

A Fantawild spokesperson said on Tuesday that "Realm of Terracotta" was a brand-new original creation and would be developed into a franchise. It will be the first Chinese-ancient-style animation targeted at the global audiences.

The character designs, screenplay and visual effects have been repeatedly polished, while the creators spent two years visiting Emperor Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum for on-the-spot research, in order to best demonstrate the style of the Terracotta Warriors, as well as other marvelous Chinese elements such as kung fu and mythology, Chinese history and traditional culture.
