The sequel to the successful sci-fi horror film "A Quiet Place" came back to haunt Chinese audiences on May 28.

Paramount Pictures' "A Quiet Place Part II" abruptly announced its release date in China on May 24, just four days before its actual wide release. It may help further supplement and boost the Chinese film market, as the Hollywood blockbuster "F9" is still racing, but losing some momentum due to bad reviews, on China's box office chart.

"A Quiet Place" (2018) grossed 220 million yuan in China and $340 million worldwide, quite an achievement considering its relatively small budget. The thrilling sequel, again directed by John Krasinski, picks up the story from the end of the first one, the Abbott family (starred by Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now continue to face off against the murderous alien monsters, that are totally blind and sense humans via sound.

Advanced IMAX screenings held in Beijing on Thursday night show that the unspeakable terror can be magnified and extremely immersive and breathtaking, with the audience gasping in their seats along with the protagonists who fight for survival in silence.

"A Quiet Place Part II", once scheduled to debut on March 20, 2020 and delayed for a year, will also open in the North American market on May 28 during the Memorial Day weekend to kick off America's summer film season, as 70% of U.S. theaters have resumed operations, according to Comscore.

It is one of only a few films to stick to a traditional theatrical release at a time when ,most opt for simultaneous releases in both theaters and online. As such, it is expected to take the weekend crown in its own domestic market with support of movie theater operators. Analysts believed it will set some box office records for COVID-19 pandemic era as it has received excellent reviews and high audience anticipation.
