Man builds 'Forbidden City' with 700,000 Legos

A miniature version of Beijing's Forbidden City has been on display at a kindergarten in Panyu, Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province, attracting many children.
The model nearly recreates the whole Forbidden City, from the three main halls—the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Central Harmony, and the Hall of Preserving Harmony—to the iconic turrets.
The model was created by Li Zhining, a young man from Guangzhou.
He used more than 700,000 LEGO bricks to create this 4m x 2.4m work, which he named "I Am Chinese."
Li said the reason he chose this name and exhibited it in the kindergarten was to show people the profound Chinese culture.
In order to complete this work, Li, who has never been to the Forbidden City, found the floor plan on the Internet and tried to build it little by little.
He began making it in September 2020 and finished it at the end of May this year.
He said this work had his own innovations.
Li started to play LEGO in 2008 and likes to build castle-like buildings.
There are more than two tons of Lego bricks in his studio. When he has no inspiration for creation, he trains his patience by organizing the bricks.
