Editor's note: This week's event include two exhibitions — one featuring famous Chinese architect and architectural historian Liang Sicheng, and another showcasing rare treasures from ancient Egypt — as well as a classic opera. These are the three events you won't want to miss this week.

1. Exhibition: "Liang: the Overarching — A Documenta celebrating Liang Sicheng's 120th Anniversary"

Liang Sicheng (1901-1972), known as the father of modern Chinese architecture, was a Chinese architect and architectural historian. This is the first major exhibition to commemorate the scholar for his work helping to protect, pass on, and develop traditional Chinese culture.

Dates: Aug. 10 - Oct. 20

Venue: Tsinghua University Art Museum, Beijing

2. Exhibition: "Meet the ancient Egypt"

A total of 107 rare treasures from ancient Egypt, including six golden mummies, will be on display for the first time in China. In ancient Egyptian mythology, gold is regarded as the body of gods, and so the ancient Egyptian people coated the dead in gold to express their attachment to eternal life. In addition, the exhibition spans numerous precious artifacts, including pottery, jewels, statues, stone tablets, and toys from the ancient civilization, reflecting ancient Egyptian aristocratic life.

Dates: Aug. 15 - Nov.15

Venue: The China Millennium Monument, Beijing

3. Opera: "The Red Guards on Honghu Lake"

The production of the classic opera "The Red Guards on Honghu Lake" was completed in 1958. In October 1959, central China's Hubei province staged the opera in Beijing for the first time as a commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The performance was a huge success, and the opera has since become a treasure among China's national operas.

Dates: Aug. 10 - 15

Venue: National Center for the Performing Arts, Beijing

Cultural events of the week: August 2-8
