A new version of the play "Sunrise" will debut in the new cultural landmark, Beijing International Theatrical Center, on Sept. 2, according to Beijing People's Art Theater.

Choosing "Sunrise" as the first show for the new theatrical center has much meaning, according to Wang Wenguang, Party secretary of the theater. In the 1950s, the first show in the Capital Theater was also "Sunrise."

By choosing "Sunrise," Wang said the theater wants to show respect and gratitude to the late playwright Cao Yu, who was also a former director of Beijing People's Art Theater, for his contributions.

"Young actors in the show also demonstrate that we have inherited classics, and fostered talented people, which symbolize new hope for the new theater," Wang added.

Beijing International Theatrical Center, the fifth playhouse of Beijing People's Art Theater, covers an area of 23,000 square meters, with three floors above the ground and four floors underground. The Cao Yu Theater and the People's Art Little Theater can accommodate 700 and 300 people, respectively. There is also a yard decorated like Beijing folk houses, which will host activities in the future.
