73-year-old man from Hebei passes on Peking Opera to younger generations

A group of teenagers are learning basic skills of Peking Opera under the guide of Zhang Shaoguo, a 73-year-old Peking Opera actor, Tangshan, Hebei Province.

Zhang has been engaged in the Peking Opera for his entire life. He learned from several Peking Opera schools including Ma, Tan and Yu when he was a student.

He worked as a professional actor in a troupe and became a director later.

He worked as a Peking Opera tutor at a local primary school after retiring in 2016.

More than 20 of his students have won national awards in the past 15 years and some have even been admitted to top Chinese opera schools such as National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts and Shanghai Theater Academy.
