The tale of the 28th Beijing International Book Fair is one of ingenuity and adaptation, as it once again raises its curtain to in-person visitors with a dazzling variety of events.

The plot thickens, however, following the success of the "virtual" activities last year. There's plenty happening online, too. Before starting this year's book fair adventure at the China International Exhibition Center, take a look at the contents page of this latest installment and see some of the highlighted exhibits and activities running through Saturday.

The Virtual Reality Reading Forest takes you on a unique journey via new technology. LCX Sci-Fi Universe Immersion Exhibition unveils a mysterious world from the imagination of award-winning author Liu Cixin.

Exhibitions of picture books, illustrations and children's reading all showcase the latest publications from home and abroad aimed at younger readers. Pakistan, the Guest of Honor for this year, hosts a number of events to help visitors immerse themselves in its rich culture.

A competition offers an opportunity for college students to display their creativity using new media, while the booths of the two major exhibitors-China Publishing Group and Guangdong Publishing Group-are sure to draw big crowds.

Last, but by no means least, be sure not to miss out on the gifts that have been prepared for early bird visitors to China Daily's booth.
