The National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will host the Beijing Forum for Symphonic Music 2021 via video link, Nov. 29 and 30, according to a press conference on Wednesday.

More than 100 representatives from the fields of classical and orchestral music at home and abroad will exchange ideas on two major themes – "The Sustainable Development of Symphonic Music" and "Symphony Orchestras and Theaters: Building Urban Cultural Landmarks."

Zhu Jing, deputy head of the NCPA, said that nearly 30 speakers will deliver speeches covering various facets of the arts, including art and technology, and expanding audiences and nurturing young artists.

Zhang Yi, musical director for the National Ballet of China, said one particularly prescient topic is both the performance and development of symphonic music against the backdrop of COVID-19.

Chinese violinist Lyu Siqing said it is important for musicians around the world to strengthen communication about sustaining the vitality of music and deliver higher quality musical works to audiences.

Lyu Jia, NCPA's music director, said the forum offers an inclusive and international platform for Chinese orchestras and their foreign counterparts to deepen exchanges and jointly promote the development of symphonic music.

According to the press conference, the forum will be livestreamed on the NCPA's official website, as well as the online platforms of several mainstream media outlets.
